Alan Cawley had to leave the field after just seven minutes after sustaining a broken nose, Kevin Dixon took his place at Outside Left. Leeds were much more superior than the scoreline would indicate. Tony Hackworth got the only goal of the game in the twenty-sixth minute when Darren Huckerby broke down the left and sent over a low cross which Hackworth connected with from about the penalty spot and the keeper had no chance. Before that Jamie McMaster was just off target, Kevin Dixon had a twenty-five yard shot well saved by the home keeper, Hill, when he dived to his right. This was followed by a shot from Hackworth striking an upright and Hill saved on the line as the ball almost found the net. Huckerby, who had a shot saved, and Kevin Dixon with shots from long range were not far from increasing the lead before half-time. Frazer Richardson replaced Eirik Bakke in the sixty-seventh minute and nine minutes later Darren Huckerby capitalized on a fine cross from Danny Mills to connect with a volley that flew narrowly over. Frazer Richardson was the next to hit the woodwork before a goalbound shot from Jacob Burns hit Darren Huckerby and was diverted for a goal kick. It coyld have been ten or a dozen rather than 1-0 as the game entered the final minute. Huckerby missed an excellent chance to make it 2-0 and from the ensuing breakaway the home team went within a whisker of equalizing. Danny Milosevic, Damian Lynch and Simon Johnson remained unused on the Leeds bench.
